Abbottabad

Abbottabad, with its mesmerizing valleys and serene destinations, lies along the Karakoram Highway. It serves as a gateway for tourists traveling to Galiyat, and the northern regions.

Between May 1 and July 31, 2024, 6,258,709 local and foreign tourists visited these scenic spots, adding to the city’s already growing population. This surge in visitors has significantly increased the demand on Abbottabad’s water supply system.

To address these challenges, the Local Government Elections and Rural Development Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), has launched the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project. This initiative aims to upgrade the city’s water infrastructure, mitigate climate change impacts on groundwater reserves, ensuring it can meet the demands of its residents and the ever-growing influx of tourists.
